Philosophical and Practical Aphorisms by Nassim Nicholas Taleb

After reading The Bed of Procrustes by Nassim Taleb I selected some of  Nassim's wise sayings:

1.Man faces limits to knowledge , things he never observed or never saw.

2.The person you are most afraid to contradict is yourself and its the hardest part to find mistakes in yourself.

3.In science you need to understand world and in business you need others to misunderstand it.

4.An 'erudite' is someone who displays less than he knows, a journalist or consultant are opposite.

5.If your anger decreases with time, you did injustice and if it increases , you suffered injustice.

6.Those who think religion is about 'belief' don't understand religion , and don't understand belief.

7.The best revenge on a liar is to convince him that you believe what he said.

8.Hatred is harder to fake than love, we never hear of fake hate but do hear of fake love.

9.Friendship that ends was never one.

10.What fools call "wasting time" is most often the best investment.
11.You want to avoid being disliked without being envied or admired.

12.The fastest way to become rich is to socialize with the poor and vice versa.

13.Charm is the ability to insult people without offending them, nerdiness is reverse.

14.Writers are remembered for their good works, politicians for their mistakes and businessmen for nothing as this is the most mean profession.

15.Double a man's erudition and you halve his citations.

16.What you learn on your own you remember it and what is taught is forgotten easily.

17.Regular minds find similarities in events and observations and finer minds detect differences.

18.The perfect sucker understands that pigs can stare at pearls but doesn't realize that he can be in an analog situation.

19.Imagination of a genius surpasses his intellect.

20.To become a philosopher start walking slow, reasoning on long walks. Mathematicians understand completeness while philosophers understand incompleteness.

21.A mathematician starts with a problem and creates a solution , while a consultant starts by offering a solution and creates a problem.

22.The difference between banks and the Mafia: banks have better legal-regulatory expertise, but Mafia understands public opinion.

23.Mediocre men tend to be outrages by small insults but passive , subdued and silent in front of mass crowd.

24.A good foe is far more loyal, far more predictable and to the clever man , far more useful then the most close admirer.

25.Man destroys himself during war and themselves during peace time.
